All Star observations

Since its the time for the MLB All Star Weekend, Home Run Derby, and All Star Game. Below is a running list of observations recorded of the course of a couple of days. They are not necessarily in order of occurrence. Some of them I actually said to other people, others were just thoughts.

1. Pujols is simply amazing

2. I didn’t know Joe Morgan was so old, he was selected to the 1966 All Star Game, last time it was in St. Louis, 43 years ago

3. How is Prince Fielder that large…and a vegetarian?

4. Why is Prince Fielder a vegetarian?

5. Nelly is really good at baseball and a great athlete

6. Nelly is from U-City…this isn’t news, but I discussed the fact, and I’m also from U-City

7. The Cubbies only have one player in the All-Star Game

8. I’m glad only one Cubbie made it the year its in St. Louis

9. The Cubbies have more All-Star players this year than World Series titles in the last 101 years…

10. Why was Brandon Inge in the Home Run Derby?

11. Nelson Cruz really surprised me… I didn’t think he would do that well

12. I love Ozzie Smith…my favorite Cardinal

13. People keep calling Nelson Cruz a “young kid” he’s 29…you know who else is 29? – Some guy named Albert

14. Pujols has immense respect for Stan “The Man” Musial, so much he doesn’t like being called “El Hombre”, but “Winnie the Pooh” is still ok

15. Even though Pujols didn’t do so great…the joke at the end of this article is still amazing.

16. When did Ozzie decide to grow out the gray beard?

17. Why can’t Ozzie get more involved with the Cardinals?

18. I’m glad the All Star game is not the Cubs vs. Yankees/Red Sox like it was last year

19. No the Home Run Derby is not a horse race.

20. Ok, I’ll admit it, I may have kind of gotten the chills a little bit when they showed all those old Cardinal clips during the into

21. YES YES YES! They booed Ted Lilly, that was fantastic (during the introductions)

22. I’m glad Marquis got a pretty good cheer and welcome when he was announced. (also during the introductions)

23. What if instead of the courthouse and arch, they carved a giant picture of Pujols’ face in the outfield?

24. I love seeing all the Cardinal greats on the field

25. WHY is Obama not wearing a Cards jacket?

26. That was a joke of an excuse for the first pitch, Obama not in a Cards jacket, and they didn’t even show it on T.V.?

27. How awesome would it be if Yadier and Pujols pulled off their signature move and picked someone off at 1st base?

28. Yadier is a beast! He’s such a good defensive player

29. Did I say Yadier is a beast?  he’s also a great hitter…way to get the NL back in the game

30. Franklin=Money

31. I would love to see Mark Buehrle in a Cardinal uniform

32. Someone sent me this great quote from Albert about his faith.

33. I really wanted to see Carl Crawford vs. Yadier Molina, too bad Ichiro ruined it

34. This game is flying…it’s already the 6th inning?

35. Every time I see Moises Alou I think of what he did to “improve his grip”

36. Wow, Pujols actually got pitched to 3 at bats in a row

37. But he didn’t get much to  show for it, even though he did hit a couple of those balls pretty hard

38. Surprised Gonzalez took over instead of Ryan Howard

39. Is Charlie Manuel pulling a Tony La Russa? Pujols didn’t play in ’05 when La Russa managed…

40. Ozzie would have made that play at SS that Bartlett failed to make… but I’m ok with that because it gives the NL a chance

41. Jason Werth got a great jump on that ball and covered a lot of ground…thank goodness

42. Wow, the NL loses again…
